Some taxpayers are still sending money to cancelled accounts of Tax Offices

Despite the notices of the Financial Administration of the Czech Republic to thoroughly check the payments of tax obligations to the correct bank accounts, about 3,500 of them were sent incorrectly to accounts that were cancelled three years ago.

Despite the notices of the Financial Administration of the Czech Republic to thoroughly check the payments of tax obligations to the correct bank accounts, about 3,500 of them in the total of CZK 47 million were sent incorrectly to accounts that were cancelled three years ago. Even though the remitters get their incorrectly sent amounts back, their tax obligation might not be paid in time and therefore they risk sanctions for late payment.

The highest number of the incorrectly sent payments was monitored for the road tax (1,014 payments amounting to CZK 3.5 million) and for the value added tax (944 payments amounting to CZK 30 million). It still is a very high number, though there was a decrease by a one third in the last six months.

The Financial Administration of the Czech Republic has already cancelled the old bank accounts on 31st December 2012. During the transitional period the payments were automatically re-routed from the cancelled accounts of the Tax Offices to the correct ones. The transitional period ended on 31st December 2014. Since the 1st January 2015, all payments to the cancelled accounts have been given back to the remitters.

List of bank account numbers of all Tax Offices and other information on paying of taxes can be found on the webpages of the Financial Administration of the Czech Republic.
