Untaxed goods from third countries were revealed by the Financial Administration of the Czech Republic

Employees of the Financial Administration and Customs Administration revealed untaxed goods approximately in the amount of CZK 90 million during the joint action called „MERKUR“. The action was aimed to taxation of goods imported from the third countries, especially from Southeast Asia.

Goods of a total weight of 130 tons were seized from nine trucks secured on 16th April 2014. The employees of the Financial Administration seized 80,000 pairs of shoes, 700 sets of luggage, 20 tons of cotton yarn and 24 tons of plastic bags.

Tax auditors have identified three risk subjects who did not submitted tax returns for value added tax, even though they imported the goods into the Czech Republic in large volumes. Therefore, the employees of the Financial Administration have proceeded to issuing the security orders in the amount of CZK 14 million. "Fight with untaxed imports is our long-term priority. We are going to direct our forces into this area in May,” said Mr. Jan Knížek, the Director General of the Financial Administration of the Czech Republic.

The event took place at two locations in western Bohemia and involved several dozen of employees of the Financial Administration and Customs Administration. All items seized will be sold at public auction and the yield will be used to cover the debtors’ tax arrears.
