Action „INDAGO“ has started international co-operation in fight against VAT evasions

A joint action of Czech, Slovak, Austrian and German Tax and Customs Administrations, aimed on searching of commodities that are being used for VAT frauds, took place at dozens of places in the Czech borderland during last two weeks.

Nearly six hundred auditors checked about two thousand transports and prevented tax evasions in the amount of almost CZK 28 million. Related consequent seizures yielded CZK 135,5 million. These operations were carried out in the co-operation with the Financial Analytic Unit of the Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic.

Mr. Jan Knížek, the Director General of the Czech Tax Administration, says: „Tax evasions are not bound by frontiers and just like the high-risk tax subjects create international network for avoidance of their tax liabilities, it is necessary for tax administrations of respective countries to co-operate on the international level, too“.

The monitored high-risk commodities were e.g. canola oil, steel, nonferrous metals, mobile phones, computer equipment, wood, grain, flour or meat. In the course of action INDAGO the auditors seized e.g. also 23,5 tons of reinforcing steel in the amount of CZK 413 000 and 26 tankers carrying 800 000 litres of diesel and petrol.

„Developing mutual exchange of information and joint actions of tax and customs administrations within countries of the European Union should significantly contribute to the fight against customs and tax evasions“, says Mr. Pavel Novotný, the Director General of the Czech Customs Administration.
